Walking on Life's Fence

By Pamela Foye

From the Winter 2002 issue of Hopes & Dreams, newsletter of the Illinois Chapter, Huntington's Disease Society of America.

It engulfs my life
It affects my world
Even while I am healthy
It rages in a cave just waiting to strike.

Will it strike me
or my younger brother?
Neither or both of us?
What cards has fate dealt?

We see what it does to our mother,
Will that be us soon?
Will that time bomb
Ignite in our brains too?

We are walking on life's fence
Which way will we fall?
It has already been decided
Thus, with dignity we must accept it ....
... in the meantime we must cure HD.
