President's Message

by Barry Kahn, President - Illinois Chapter

From the Winter 2005 issue of Hopes & Dreams, newsletter of the Illinois Chapter, Huntington's Disease Society of America.

I am very pleased to tell you that Rush University Medical Center has been designated a regional Center of Excellence by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA). Rush was one of four centers across the nation competitively awarded the prestigious designation this year, and is the only HDSA Center of Excellence in Illinois. We are one (1) of twenty-one (21) Centers of Excellence throughout the United States that support our HD patients and families.

We are planning a formal dedication ceremony to be held within the next few weeks. Please watch for future announcements regarding this event as we hope all of our HD families in Illinois can participate.

In our last newsletter, we indicated a Dinner Dance and Silent Auction would be held in April with proceeds to benefit the Center. This formal designation of a Center of Excellence will be called “A Celebration of Hope,” and will be held in late August. The date (along with further details) will be announced as soon as it is firmed up.

We are fortunate to have a professional event planner working with us. Her name is Monique Lipman-Collins. Monique will be working hard to involve many of you to help in our efforts to make this a successful event. Some of the areas that we need help in are:
o Silent Auction
o Sponsorship Solicitation
o Day of Event Operations

In addition, we are looking for silent auction donations as well as sponsorships. If you are able to help in any of these areas, please contact:

Let’s all work together to make this event successful for the benefit of our Center of Excellence!
