Needed: Help with a Study

From the Winter 1999 issue of Hopes & Dreams, newsletter of the Illinois Chapter, Huntington's Disease Society of America.

This was sent to the 'Hunt-Dis' Internet chat site.

Greetings,

My name is Suzanne and I am a student at Brandeis University doing a study about the factors that influence people's decisions about genetic testing. I am especially curious about how the possibility of genetic discrimination in health insurance influences people's decisions.

I am looking for people to interview, either in person (if you live in the Boston area) or by phone (location unimportant), who have seriously considered genetic testing for Huntington's disease. This includes those who considered getting tested but chose not to as well as those who got tested prior to showing symptoms. Privacy, confidentiality, and anonymity will be utmostly respected. I am very interested to hear all of your stories.

If you or someone you know would be willing to help me with my study and fit one of these categories, if you have questions, or would like to know more about my study, please contact me at sgoodwin@brandeis.edu or (781) 529-6329. I hope to hear from you soon. I will be conducting interviews through January.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Goodwin
