In Memory of Tom Caldwell

From the Summer 2005 issue of Hopes & Dreams, newsletter of the Illinois Chapter, Huntington's Disease Society of America.

Tom died June 5, 2005 in Tucson after a brief illness. He had been active in the fight against HD for more than 30 years. During this time, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Chapter for about 20 years. He served two separate terms as President of the Chapter. Along with his wife Wilma, they answered calls on the Chapter phone and did In-Service training at nursing homes in the area. They also participated in Support Groups in Rockford and Naperville and started the Peoria Support Group. Tom also served several years on the HDSA National Board of Trustees and was President of the organization for 2 years.

In 1995, Tom and Wilma retired and returned to Arizona. Once there, they joined the Arizona Chapter and organized a support group in Tucson and performed In-Service training in nursing homes in the area.

Sharon and I feel privileged to have known and worked with him and Wilma while they were in Illinois. Like hundreds of other members of the HD community, we have lost a true and trusted friend. May he enjoy the peace and happiness he has earned.

Good-bye old friend,

Clarence Wiese
