Diary of a Brain Tumor Patient's Wife

Paul had a good day yesterday. He was alert quite a bit of the day but didn't have the severe agitation like he had the day before. He ate well - smushed banana for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch, smushed potatoes & carrots from stew for supper. Our church organist came by and played the piano for him, and the person that I hired to be with us yesterday, who's studying to be a physical therapist, did some exercises with him.

He slept well last night until about 2:30 and then was awake until about 5:00. He didn't seem to be agitated like he is sometimes when he can't go back to sleep, but just did a lot of vocalizing. I couldn't understand much of it, but just sat by him and held his hand until I started falling asleep. When I said "We'd better go back to sleep now" he said "OK". He continued vocalizing awhile and then fell asleep, and slept til about 7:00 this morning.

We had cream of wheat for breakfast - something I haven't fixed in years. He really enjoyed it and we did too. He's been awake most of the day today. Several times he has started getting a little agitated, but I have managed to get some Ativan in him and that seemed to help. We had quite a bit of company from church this afternoon. I was able to take a little nap while some of the folks were here.

He just had a bed bath and now is resting while dinner is cooking. A friend from church brought over a chicken/rice casserole and all I had to do was put it in the oven. It smells delicious. Philip & Karen are coming to have dinner with us. Paul's nephew Steve just stopped by but couldn't stay to eat.
