Diary of a Brain Tumor Patient's Wife

Mar. 20, 1999

Paul had a very good day yesterday. Philip's friend, Steve, who's a big strong guy, spent the night here Thursday. On Friday morning, Paul wanted to get up, so Steve transferred him to the comfy chair. He sat up for awhile and then wanted to get back in bed, so Steve transferred him back.

Philip and Karen were both here a good part of the day. Our choir director was here awhile and she played the piano and Philip sang. Karen fixed Paul lunch and helped him eat while I talked to the Hospice nurse. Then Paul's good friend Bob came over and I took a much welcomed nap. Later our minister came by and he sang while Mom played the piano.

We had a big crowd for supper. The kids were both here, along with a couple of Philip's friends. Our minister stayed since his wife was out of town, and another friend from church, who was doing evening duty, was here. Corned beef was on sale this week, so I had put 2 briskets on the grocery list. I cooked them both all day and they were really good.

After supper Steve's parents came to visit a little bit. Then Philip and Karen both played the piano for Paul. Our good friends Al & Barbara were here for the night, and they brought some slides of some of their bicycle trips, so we watched them awhile before going to bed.

Paul slept pretty well. He woke up about 1:00 and was coughing a lot. He didn't settle down til after 3:00, but then he slept well again til about 6:00 this morning. A friend from church is here now. He and Al got Paul into the comfy chair this morning, and he's resting there now. I'll probably call a neighbor to help get him back to the bed when he's ready to lie down.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.
